SITE PLAN LANDSCAPE SUMMARY

Swiss Re chose this projects's 127-acre site because of its commanding view of the Kensico Reservoir. Massive building construction on its steep terrain required extensive tree clearing, rock excavation, grading, and stormwater basins.  MVR designed site plantings and oversaw their installation in 1998. Also designed the tennis and basketball court area.

SITE PLAN LANDSCAPE CHALLENGES

Foremost were screening the Parking Garage, and, addressing the Building Approach's direct aspect/focus onto  the Building's Service Area. The Approach has a 50’ elevation climb with steep side slopes. Plantings had to fulfill two major requirements:

1. Screen the Parking Garage from State Route 121.
2. Create a seamless, appealing ‘Arrival’ at the Main Building.

MVR LANDSCAPE SOLUTIONS(Plan 2)

1. Designed the 'Woodland Slope Garage Screen' to knit with the surrounding forest and preservation trees near it.
2. Modulated plantings at the Pivot Turn (shown left) to create a welcoming garden for Swiss Re America visitors.  Plantings established without irrigation but with deer routinely present.
